Fuel supply will not deter Iran from enrichment

Teheran will not give up uranium enrichment even if the West guarantees a supply of nuclear fuel to the country, Iran's official news agency said Sunday. The IRNA report quotes Iran's Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki as saying Iran could not trust Western countries, especially the US, to provide nuclear support because they had backtracked on cooperation in the past. Mottaki said Iran would continue to enrich uranium and would provide it to other countries under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. The UN Security Council has passed sanctions against Iran for refusing to suspend uranium enrichment. The US and many of its allies fear Iran is pursuing nuclear weapons - a charge Teheran denies.
