Iranian newspapers reported Wednesday that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad had canceled all official business for four days because of a cold, raising questions about his health a few months after he said he was suffering from exhaustion.
Ahmadinejad canceled all official appointments from Tuesday until the end of Friday, the newspaper Etemad reported. It said the president canceled a speech he was scheduled to give Tuesday on Gaza at Teheran University, leaving it to a top adviser, Mojtaba Samareh Hashemi, who said Ahmadinejad has a cold.
The 53-year-old president said in October that he was suffering from exhaustion, an apparent attempt to combat rumors that he was seriously ill and might not be able to compete for re-election in June. Ahmadinejad's allies said at the time that the strain of his job had worn him down.
There have been no indications that his current condition is any worse than a cold.
