British-French singer Jane Birkin – accompanied by the Ashdod Symphony Orchestra – will be the headliner of the Francofolies Festival held in Ashdod next month.
Birkin, an actress, singer and native of London, has lived in Paris for decades, and released more than a dozen studio albums. She will perform a concert during the festival, which is held on the intermediate days of Sukkot and is being held in conjunction with the local Ushpizin Festival.
Birkin will perform with the Ashdod orchestra conducted by Gil Shohat on September 26 at the Ashdod Performing Arts Center. The singer last appeared in Israel in 2012, when she staged two concerts back to back in Tel Aviv.
In addition to Birkin, French-Israeli singer Amir Haddad will perform, as will the Cote d’Ivorie musical group Magic System and French singer-songwriter Raphael Haroche.
The Israelis taking part in the festival, which runs from September 25-27, include Kaveret’s Danny Sanderson and Gidi Gov; legendary performer Dudu Fisher; iconic singer Yehoram Gaon and many more.
The festival is being supported by the Foreign Ministry, the French Embassy, the Tourism Ministry and the Ashdod Municipality.
