The Sounds of Pastoral series of entertainment weekends returns to the Pastoral Hotel at Kfar Blum for a 13th time on November 20. The forthcoming season will comprise 10-12 weekends running through to May, covering a wide range of musical and comic material and cultural baggage.
The first weekend is a salute to late iconic singer Arik Einstein, covering important milestones in his long and star-studded career. The Kama Tov SheBaata Habayta (So Good You Came Home) lineup – named after one of Einstein’s biggest hits, from 1972 – features musician-composer Miki Gabrielov, who worked with Einstein from the late 1960s through to the 1980s and wrote the music for many Einstein numbers. Veteran radio DJ Yoav Kutner, who knew Einstein well and interviewed him several times over the years, is also on board.
The first weekend is a sellout and the series organizers are currently considering running the program a second time, in January. The second weekend (December 4-6) focuses on the seductive sounds and rhythms of Latin American music, and stars jazz vocalist Eden Holan, travel journalist Naphtali Hilger and opera singer Keren Hadar.
The season also takes in rock renditions of opera material, and vice versa, and a satirical-comic weekend in February starring acclaimed comic actors Moni Moshonov, Dror Keren and Lillian Baretto with their long-running hit show based on the work of late celebrated playwright Hanoch Levin, Oy Elias Elias. There is also a fun Purim weekend, in March, that feeds off the comic themes in the work of such renowned men of letters as Israel Prize-winning poet Natan Alterman, Haim Heffer, Avraham Shlonsky and 76-year-old lyricist, poet, novelist and standup comedian Yoram Taharlev.
Other weekend programs include a salute to the work of such seminal composers and writers as Sasha Argov and David Zehavi, chamber music and Polish culture. For more information: (04) 683-6611 and www.kfarblum-hotel.co.il
