1. Business-Academic Club

Members of the Business-Academic Club of the Friends of Tel Aviv University held a meeting with Police Commissioner Roni Alsheikh. The event was hosted by Prof. Joseph Klafter, president of the University, Amnon Dick, chairman of the Friends Association, and Sigal Adar, executive director of the Association. Attending the event were Itzik Zeig, Nili Tzur, Gabi and Etti Rotter, Oren Most, Avi Schumer, Nathan Hetz, Joseph Ciechanover and Giora Ackerstein.

2. Honorary Iceland

The Foreign Ministry in Jerusalem  last week hosted a seminar in memory of Gad Naschitz, the former dean of the consular corps in Israel, and the honorary consul of Iceland. The event was attended by all of Israel’s consular staff, as well as more than 170 honorary consuls. The keynote speakers at the seminar were Cabinet secretary Tzachi Braverman and Gad Propper, dean of the consular corps in Israel and honorary consul of New Zealand in Israel. Attending the event were Meron Reuben, chief of state protocol at the Foreign Ministry; Adv. Amichai Orkabi, chairman of the Israel-South Korea and Mongolia Chambers of Commerce; and Orly Nacshitz, honorary consul of Iceland.

3. Microsoft Israel

As Microsoft Israel employees boarded a flight to Amsterdam that was organized for them by the company, they were happily surprised to discover that Ivri Lider would be performing a live concert for them during the flight.

4. College of Management

Former Supreme Court president Aharon Barak was welcomed at the College of Management as a guest of the law school. Barak sat in on a lecture being given by Prof. Suzie Navot. Among the many guest lecturers who teach at the College of Management are former Supreme Court president Asher Grunis, and Supreme Court justices Eliezer Rivlin and Yoram Danziger. Recently, the previous president of the Supreme Court Dorit Beinish, was hosted at the school. Avi Balashnikov, former director general of the Knesset and the current chairman of the Board of Directors of the College of Management Academic Studies, noted that the college’s law school is one of the best among Israeli colleges, and the fact that top former judges visit and teach at the college is quite significant.

5. Weizmann Science Club

The Weizmann Science Club recently held its annual meeting at the Tel Aviv Hilton Hotel. The event was hosted by club chairman Shimshon Harel, one of the owners of America Israel, and Yael Goren-Wegman, director of the club. The event was sponsored by Credit Suisse. A number of speakers addressed the crowd, including Dr. Guy Rothblum, of the Department of Computer Science and Applied Mathematics at Weizmann, who spoke about privacy in the information age; Shaul Lotan, CEO of the Levinstein Group, who told the guests about his company’s activities; and Aharon Aharon, director of the Israel Innovation Authority, who gave an overview of the authority’s activities and spoke about the importance of the IDF as a factor for driving innovation.
