1. Rabin Medical Center
The Rabin Medical Center’s annual gala took place on Sunday at the Hilton Hotel in Tel Aviv. Some 10 million shekels were raised during the event to upgrade the Gastroenterology Department. The event was organized by Pinchas (Pini) Cohen, chairman of the hospital’s board and the Chairman and General Partner of the NOY Infrastructure and Energy Investments Funds. Cohen welcomed the guests with Dr. Eran Halpern, Director of the Rabin Medical Center, Prof. Iris Dotan, head of the Division of Gastroenterology and Orly Maskin. The different speakers spoke about how the hospital is at the forefront of medical advancement in Israel and throughout the world. A special award was given to Bruria and Dudi Weissman for their efforts to advance the Israeli health system. One example of Dudi Weissman’s work was the $2 million deal signed between the hospital and UT Southwestern Medical Center, whose president Dr. Daniel Podolsky came specially to Israel to participate in the dinner.
2. Loewenstein Hospital
More than 500 people arrived at Ronit Farm in the Sharon area to participate in the 37th annual appreciation ceremony for IDF and security forces disabled veterans who have undergone rehabilitation at Loewenstein Hospital. The event was organized by Ora and Yair Shani, in cooperation with the Zahal Disabled Veterans Organization and Friends of Loewenstein Hospital. Attending were: Clalit Director-General Dr. Ehud Davidson; Loewenstein Hospital Director Prof. Amiram Catz; and chairman of the Friends of Loewenstein Hospital Erez Meltzer.
3. Maimonides Conference
Hundreds of leading researchers and thinkers from Israel and abroad attended the International Maimonides Conference last week at the National Library of Israel, where retired Supreme Court president Aharon Barak welcomed the guests. In his speech, Barak criticized the political appointments of judges.
4. Moriel Matalon
Attorney Moriel Matalon, who served for 30 years as a managing partner at law firm Gornitzky & Co., recently celebrated his 70th birthday. A huge surprise party was held in his honor at the Sheva Compound in Tel Aviv. Guests were given seating cards that resembled airplane tickets with ‘Mori Airline’ printed on them, with the target destination ‘Moriland.’ The guests were also treated to a live performance by Sarit Hadad. A number of people congratulated Matalon, including Michael Strauss, Raya Strauss, Liora Ofer, David Fattal, Sima and Asher Weitzman, Bracha Zisser, Avi Cohen, family members and all the firm’s partners.
5. Marvell Israel
Marvell Israel, led by CEO Guy Azrad, held its annual technology conference at the David Intercontinental Hotel in Tel Aviv, where each division of the company presented innovative technologies it had developed. The aim was to share these advances and expose each other to Marvell’s rich product portfolio, which resulted from the merger with Cavium Inc. and from the cooperation between the Israeli and international teams. Over 600 Marvell engineers and managers from abroad also attended a lecture given by Prof. Dan Ariely.
6. Setai Jaffa
Roger Attias, the Setai Jaffa regional manager, hosted a reception that was held just before the Christmas tree lighting event in Jaffa’s Clock Tower Square. The guests of honor at the celebration included leaders of the Jaffa Christian community, including Canada Ambassador to Israel Deborah Lyons; Ecuador Ambassador to Israel Maria Gabriela Troya Rodriguez; Australia Ambassador to Israel Chris Cannan; and Tel Aviv Mayor Ron Huldai, who lit the Christmas tree.
