Netta Barzilai’s Eurovision- winning “Toy” might be the most famous Israeli song in the world this year.
But in Israel, it’s only No. 2.
ACUM, the Association of Composers, Authors and Publishers of Music in Israel, released on Tuesday a list of the top-10 most listened to Israeli songs over the past year. And topping the list is none other than local sensation Omer Adam, with his song “Shnei Meshugaim” (“Two Crazy People”).
Sliding into second place is “Toy
” by Barzilai, which enchanted Israel and Europe when it won first place at the Eurovision song contest in May.
ACUM released its list on the same day that “Toy” advanced to the top spot on Billboard’s Dance Club Songs chart in the US. Barzilai came in ahead of “Accelerate” by Christina Aguilera, featuring Ty Dolla $ign & 2 Chainz. “Toy
,” however, does not appear anywhere on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart; on the site’s main Dance/Electronic Songs ranking it comes in at No. 27.
Over on YouTube, however, Adam’s “Shnei Meshugaim”
has just over 40 million views, while “Toy” has been seen more than 120 million times on the platform. Both of the songs, coincidentally, were co-written by Stav Beger.
ACUM – which released its list ahead of Rosh Hashana – said it compiled the rankings based on statistics provided by local and national radio stations.
Other artists who appeared on the list this year include Static and Ben-El, Subliminal, Eyal Golan and Idan Raichel.
Barzilai is the only female artist to appear in the top 10.
