A fire broke out near the Church of Mary Magdalene, the Russian Orthodox church on the Mount of Olives, killing one woman on Sunday morning, according to Magen David Adom.

"We arrived at the scene quickly, and we saw a structure on the grounds of a church was fiercely burning," Maj. Gen.  Mohi Alian, the commander of the rescue and fire brigade at the scene said. "The flames were a few meters high and surrounded the building,"

The woman, an 80-year-old nun, suffered from 3rd degree burns and was found by fireman in the single-story building without a pulse.

The fire occurred on church grounds in A-Tur, a majority Arab neighborhood on the Mount of Olives.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
