The Israel Senior National Baseball team finished home third place in last week's B-Pool European Championship tournament in Vienna, Austria. The team started the week 3-0 with wins against Belarus, Poland, and host Austria, but lost its final two games to Lithuania and Sweden, 7-5, and 9-8, eliminating the blue-and-white. Sweden won the final and the championship and will now move up to the 2016 A-Pool with the top teams in Europe. Poland was relegated to the C-Pool. “This was a very tough loss for us,” says team general manager and Israel Association of Baseball president Peter Kurz. “We had a great team. The guys played well. We just came up a little short. “It's an honor to get the third place trophy, but we're at a point now with our program where we prepare to win championships and anything less is disappointing.” Israel is hoping to host the next B-Pool tournament in the summer of 2017.
