American rapper Tyga announced on Monday that he was planning a concert in Israel this spring.
“Israel! I’m coming for the first time to the Desert Club in Rishon Lezion on April 23rd!” he posted on Facebook on Monday evening, without any advance notice.
The Grammy-nominated rapper – whose real name is Micheal Ray Stevenson – is a fixture on the US rap scene. Tyga – which stands for “thank you God always” – released his sixth studio album last year, and has a slew of hits including “BedRock,” “Hookah,” “Wait For a Minute” and “Loyal.” He has collaborated with Justin Bieber, Nicki Minaj, Wiz Khalifa, Jason Derulo, Snoop Dogg and more.
Tyga is also a regular in the gossip columns for his high-profile past relationships, including with Blac Chyna and Kylie Jenner. Just this weekend, he made headlines for being dragged out of a club while celebrating Floyd Mayweather’s birthday because he reached for the gun of a security guard.
Tyga was scheduled to appear in Israel last summer for the first time at a festival in Rishon Lezion, which included fellow US rapper Fat Joe. But the two musicians both canceled their appearances just a week in advance, citing the “security situation” at the time. There was no particular pressing security situation at the time of the concert.
Rishon Lezion’s Desert Club is an outdoor night club in the city that opened last year, and can host several thousand people. Ticket information for the show was not immediately available.
