As rocket sirens blared across the country on Wednesday afternoon, the IDF warned that Iran and Hezbollah may launch coordinated attacks toward Israel during the upcoming holiday evening.

“Our defense systems are deployed and prepared to intercept threats across the country,”  IDF Spokesperson Brig.-Gen. Effie Defrin said during a televised address.

Defrin stressed that Israel's air defense array “is not hermetic” and urged the public to follow instructions issued by the Home Front Command.

“I call on you, listen to Home Front Command guidelines,” he said.

Defrin added that the military has prepared extensively for the holiday period to ensure readiness across all sectors. “We have made preparations for the holiday evening to provide the best possible response to all of our soldiers, in every arena,” he said.

He also noted that many troops will not be celebrating with their families. “Most of them are not celebrating the holiday with you. Be proud of them. They are operating with dedication, determination, and responsibility for the security of the State of Israel and its citizens, even during this holiday.”

Security officials warn of escalation during the holiday period

Defrin’s remarks come as security officials on Wednesday warned of a possible escalation during the holiday period.

While no specific intelligence has pointed to a coordinated barrage from Iran, Yemen, and Lebanon during the holiday evening, Israel’s defense establishment is not ruling out such a scenario.

Senior security officials cited by Israeli media have said Iran could still attempt to synchronize a multi-front attack targeting Israel’s home front, even as the scale of recent launches from Iranian territory has declined in recent days.

The potential for such a scenario is also linked to the weakened state of Lebanon’s government and the inability of local security forces to remove Iranian personnel from Beirut or significantly constrain Hezbollah’s activities. This, officials have noted, provides Iran with greater operational freedom to coordinate attacks from Lebanese territory.

Amid these threats, Israel has reportedly increased coordination with the United States and other foreign militaries, aimed at improving early warning systems for missile threats and enhancing interception capabilities.
