A 27-year-old resident of Jaffa was shot outside of his home by an unidentified gunman on Friday night. The man was rushed to the Wolfson Medical Center in Holon, but dies of his injuries shortly after arrival. Police have launched a homicide investigation.
In the Arab village of Sandala near Afula, a volunteer with the Border Police sustained a light head injury after a rock was thrown at his vehicle. Police searched the area for the rock throwers but no arrests were made.
Large police forces were deployed in intersections in the North and in Acre - scene of violent riots between Arabs and Jews two years ago - but no unusual incidents were noted.
In Haifa, rocks were thrown on Sderot Haganah over Yom Kippur. Three youths aged 17, 17, and 18 were arrested.
Five rock throwing incidents recorded in Afula, four in Tiberias and three in Migdal Ha'emek. No injuries reported in any of the incidents.
Ninety three people fainted during the fast and 22 people required resuscitation by paramedics, Magen David Adom reported on Saturday evening. Nineteen children were treated by paramedics after falling off their bicycles.
A 31-year-old man drowned in the Dead Sea during Yom Kippur. He was
declared dead after paramedics failed to resuscitate him.
In a separate
incident, a 41-year-old man was rescued from a near-drowning in the Dead
Sea. He was air lifted to the Soroka Medical Center in Beersheva and is
in light to moderate condition.
