Actor Hanan Goldblatt gets 7 years in jail for rape, sodomy, deception

The Tel Aviv District Court on Thursday sentenced actor Hanan Goldblatt to seven years in prison. Goldblatt was convicted last July of rape, sodomy, indecent acts and five counts of deception over a period of some nine years. Since being indicted in 2005, Goldblatt has spent most of his time under house arrest at his sister's house. Judge Avraham Tal wrote in his ruling, "It has been proven, beyond all doubt, that Goldblatt at least [had relations with] young girls… who he met through an acting course on which he taught… I was convinced that [Goldblatt] exploited his position as a drama and acting teacher in order to … teach private lessons." Goldblatt continues to claim that all the women freely consented to the sexual acts, and his lawyer announced that he would appeal the sentence.
