Attorney-General Menahem Mazuz may initiate legal proceedings against MK Said Nafa (Balad) on counts of contacting an enemy agent and visiting an enemy country without permission, according to a notification sent to Nafa Sunday.
Nafa traveled to Syria in 2007, where he met with Hamas politburo Khaled Mashaal, as well as the second in command in the PFLP terror organizations. Also, according to suspicions, Nafa also tried to obtain Syrian visas for some 300 Israeli citizens.
He has been summoned to attend a hearing with Mazuz pending a decision to prosecute him.
The Druse Nafa, who in his youth served several prison sentences after refusing to enlist in the IDF, became an MK in April 2007 after Balad's leader Azmi Bishara was forced to resign following suspicions that he had spied for Hizbullah during the Second Lebanon War.
Meanwhile, Mazuz decided to expedite the proceedings against three Arab MKs who traveled to Syria and Lebanon but did not meet with terror officials.
