Court reduces Vanunu's prison time from 6 to 3 months due to health

Mordechai Vanunu's prison sentence was shortened from six to three months by the Jerusalem District Court on Tuesday, due to the nuclear whistleblower's health. "In light of [Vanunu's] ailing health and the lack of evidence that he put the country's security in jeopardy, we believe his sentence should be reduced," read the judges' opinion. Before the hearing, Vanunu told media that he would speak only when he is "free to talk and move." Vanunu is currently serving a six-month jail sentence for violating the conditions of his release from prison by maintaining unauthorized contact with foreigners. He was released from prison over four years ago after serving a 18- year prison sentence, including more than 11 years in solitary confinement, for revealing Israel's secret nuclear program.
