A convoy of approximately 100 cars blocked Route 2, running along the Mediterranean coast, on Tuesday morning.
The drivers of the cars were Druse and Circassian community leaders, who have been protesting for some two months over what they claim is the government's negligence in its relations with the municipalities they head.
The leaders were deliberately driving slowly in order to raise awareness to their cause.
Leaders of the two minority groups have been protesting in front of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's residence in Jerusalem for more than two weeks, but their cause received little media attention and almost no response from the government.
Several Druse and Circassian municipalities in the North suffer big deficits in their budgets and their requests to the government to transfer funds have so far remained unanswered.
Due to Tuesday's protest, police recommended that drivers use Route 4, an alternative route to the Coastal Highway.
