Justice minister asks Itzik to allow former Likud MK parole, community service.

Acting President Dalia Itzik has been asked by Justice Minister Daniel Friedmann to exercise her authority and commute the sentence for former Likud MK Naomi Blumenthal.
Blumenthal was convicted in February 2006 of giving a bribe and tampering with witnesses prior to the Likud Central Committee vote for the list of candidates in the 2003 elections.
A panel of judges at the Tel Aviv Magistrate's Court unanimously convicted Blumenthal of charges that she had rented rooms for Likud central committee members at the posh Sheraton City Tower Hotel Ramat Gan on the evening of a party primary vote and later concocted a version of events to cover up her actions.
In a statement put out by his adviser, Tzahi Moshe, Friedmann said that he was proposing the pardon not because she was a public figure, but because of the special circumstances of the case. Blumenthal recently lost her husband, Professor Michael Blumenthal.
Freidmann recommended that Itzik commute Blumenthal's prison term to eight months parole and six additional months of community service.
