Government loses no-confidence votes in symbolic blow to coalition

The government lost three out of five no-confidence votes in the Knesset on Monday, as Shas MKs shunned the plenum in protest of coalition actions. The blow to the coalition was a symbolic one only, as the opposition did not achieve a majority of 61 MKs needed to bring down the government. Shas abstained from the vote due to the coalition's approval of Labor MK Avishai Braverman's appointment to chair of the Knesset's Finance Committee, a move it opposed.
