Israeli fighters were scrambled on Monday after an Egyptian helicopter penetrated Israeli airspace near the Gaza Strip. According to the reports, Israel initially feared that the aircraft was hostile and was intending to conduct a terror attack. However, after IAF jets established visual contact with the aircraft, they quickly realized that it was a wayward Egyptian helicopter and escorted it back into Egypt. The IDF confirmed the incident, and said that it "will do what it must in order to defend Israel and its citizens." Defense officials currently believe that the infiltration was accidental.
