The Israeli government on Thursday evening was expected not to respond to the political upheaval following Hamas's victory in Wednesday's Palestinian Legislative Council elections. In an emergency cabinet meeting, it was decided that Israel would not negotiate with Hamas until it renounced violence and recognized Israel's right to exist. Cabinet members stressed the importance of recruiting the United States and European Union to support Israel and apply pressure on Hamas, according to Channel 10.
