Junior lecturers momentarily call off planned strike

Representative of the junior faculties at Israel's universities agreed Tuesday to momentarily call off their planned strike for the benefit of the ongoing negotiations. MK Zehava Gal-On convened the Knesset Education, Culture and Sports Committee for a meeting on the junior and external lecturers' crisis. The junior lecturers recently announced a dispute over their salary and working conditions and the external lecturers are protesting their terms of employment by which they are employed every year for a period of eight months and then reemployed at the start of the following academic year. Since February, the lecturers have been negotiating with the university presidents on improving their conditions.
