The Kadima faction formally named Vice Premier Shimon Peres as its candidate for president in a meeting Wednesday morning.
Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Acting President Dalia Itzik both sang Peres's praises, welcoming his decision to run.
"We will work tirelessly to assure that the Knesset... makes sure that Israel receives the candidate it deserves," Olmert said.
