Knesset Committee approves building of another Ashkelon power station

Despite protests by the residents of Ashkelon, environmental groups and local councils in the area, the Knesset's House Committee has decided to build a carbon-propelled power station in Ashkelon. The station, if built, would become the second such facility in the southern city. The committee decided that the station would be built only if other stations in the area would lower the emission of harmful gases in the coming years. The plan was approved against the recommendation of both the Health Ministry and the Environmental Protection Ministry. The committee, whose decision was backed by the Committee on National Infrastructure, said building the station is "crucial to the future of the Israeli market."
