Knesset passes law to erase criminal records after 7 years

The Knesset approved Tuesday the second and third readings of a bill to automatically erase criminal records in cases that have closed. According to the law the record will be wiped seven years after the commencement of the case.
The automatic erasure will be subject to specific conditions and the head of the Police Investigations Department (PID) will be able to revoke it in certain cases. The law will not apply to serious crimes punishable by prison sentences of three years or more.
