Livni criticizes Olmert's intention to continue Syria talks

After being slammed by Likud MKs for not speaking out against Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's intention to continue negotiating with Syria despite his role as a caretaker prime minister, Foreign Minister and recently elected Kadima leader Tzipi Livni also distanced herself from Olmert's decision. "If this is anything more than just maintaining the negotiations alive, it is inappropriate and unacceptable," she said. Earlier, right wing MKs turned to Attorney General Menahem Mazuz asking him to check whether Olmert can continue negotiations the result of which might affect future generations, when general elections are just around the corner. They claimed that even though the current government was technically legal, it lacked the public and moral mandate to carry out such decisions.
