An elite IDF unit arrested a senior commander of the Aksa Martyrs Brigades, Khaled Shawish, in Ramallah on Monday. Officials said that Shawish was behind dozens of attacks including suicide bombings in Jerusalem as well as shooting attacks on roads in the Ramallah area including one that killed Rabbi Binyamin Ze'ev Kahane, son of Rabbi Meir Kahane, in 2002. Officials said that Shawish has been wanted by the IDF since 2000 and has spent most of his time near the Mukata. He was in possession of a gun when arrested.
