Peres phones Sternhell to express shock and sympathy for attack

President Shimon Peres telephoned Israel Prize laureate Prof. Ze'ev Sternhell from New York on Thursday to express his shock and sympathy for the pipe bomb attack at the entrance to the professor's Jerusalem home the previous night. Peres stressed the urgency of bringing the perpetrators to justice before attitudes of this nature get out of hand and declared that law enforcement officials must use every means at their disposal to locate the perpetrators as quickly as possible. "We must not allow such extreme and dangerous people to take the law into their own hands," he said. Peres called on Israelis from across the political spectrum to rise as one against such behavior.
