Reading power plant to shut down Wednesday

Environmental Minister Gidon Ezra instructed the Israel Electric Company on Monday to shut down the Reading Power Station in north Tel Aviv until it can be renovated to run on natural gas, rather than the current fuel, which is both expensive and a source of pollution. The Electric Company said it would honor the minister's decision, but that it intended to meet with Ezra in order to explain the ramifications of shutting Reading, namely, a concern that the closure might cause frequent power outages in the area.
