State submits request to extradite Yitzhak and Meir Abergil to US

The state on Thursday submitted its request to Jerusalem District Court to approve the extradition of Yitzhak and Meir Abergil to the United States, where they face charges including racketeering, committing violent crimes, extortion and importing drugs. Judge Ya'acov Tsaban agreed to remand the two brothers and three others indicted in the US, Sasson Barashi, Moshe Maloul and Yisrael Uzifa, until further notice. Yitzhak Abergil's lawyer, Yoram Sheftel, asked the court to release his client from jail while the attorney's studied the evidence. Tsaban scheduled a preliminary hearing for November 3.
