Supreme Court to hear appeal by Katsav's lawyers over their resignation

The Supreme Court will hear next week an appeal by former president Moshe Katsav's lawyers against a lower court decision prohibiting them from resigning from the case.
However, Deputy Supreme Court President Eliezer Rivlin rejected the lawyers' request to be permitted not to take any action to represent their client until the court ruled on their appeal.
The request specified that the lawyers did not in the meantime want to respond to the indictment against Katsav or raise any preliminary arguments regarding the case.
Rivlin's decision means that the lawyers will have to respond to the charges against their client immediately, since the court gave the lawyers 30 days from May 14, the opening day of their trial, to present their response in writing.
