Suzanna York, an internationally renowned actress, praised convicted nuclear whistleblower Mordechai Vanunu Tuesday at the end of a two-night performance at the Tel Aviv Cameri Theater.
York dedicated her evening of Shakespeare soliloquies and monologues to an unnamed man "who cannot be here," and, after describing his offenses, said that despite being released from jail, he had never truly been given freedom.
The reference was clear to audience members, who reportedly responded by walking out, booing, and, in some cases, clapping.
