Turkish ship probed for oil leak in Ashdod port

The Environmental Protection Ministry stopped a Turkish ship at the Ashdod port Monday after a 40 meter oil stain was discovered around the ship. Officials from the sea and beaches branch of the ministry were called in and opened a criminal investigation into the ship's crew. The ship has been prevented from leaving the port. Nimrod Utitz, deputy head of the sea and beaches branch, said the leak apparently originated from containers filled with crude oil in the bottom of the ship. Port workers were working to clean up the spilled oil.
