An Israeli man was stabbed to death by a gang of men who cornered him outside a store at Sydney's Bondi Beach, police and local media reported Sunday. New South Wales state police said they found the 36-year-old man - whose identity was not immediately released - slumped outside a convenience store late Saturday suffering from multiple stab wounds. The man was rushed to a nearby hospital but died several hours later, police said in a statement. Vic Alhadeff, head of the Jewish Board of Deputies, said local residents had identified the man as Israeli. It was unclear if the attack was related to the conflict in Lebanon. "Word came back to us last night from people in the area who saw it and found out that the man was an Israeli,'' Alhadeff told the Australian Associated Press on Sunday. "There was a car load of people who stopped and they got out and they assaulted him pretty brutally and some of them were hitting him with a pole or something,'' he said. New South Wales police said they could not immediately confirm the man's nationality.
