Haifa beaches ready for swimming season

The city spends millions of shekels on its beaches each spring, repairing damage to them and to the promenades.

The swimming season opened officially in Haifa last week, and the city announced that its 5 km of swimming beaches and 12 km of other beaches were ready for the summer, reports Yediot Haifa. The city said that this year 13 lifeguard stations would operate at the beaches, one more than last year. According to the report, the city spends millions of shekels on its beaches each spring, repairing damage to them and to the promenades, and organizing life-savers, first aid and security, with the latter costing NIS 700,000 per year. The Ne'ot beach in Kiryat Haim, which received an NIS 10 million upgrade last year, has now seen the completion of the work, with 16 new sun shelters built on the beach in readiness for the summer.
