Hof Hacarmel Council launches cat sterilization campaign

Working with local animal welfare organizations, the council plans to neuter or spay 500 cats in the Carmel area.

The Hof Hacarmel regional council has begun a pre-summer campaign to sterilize street cats, reports Yediot Haifa. Working with local animal welfare organizations, the council plans to neuter or spay 500 cats in the Carmel area. A municipal spokesman said the collected cats would be sterilized, immunized against rabies and parasites, tagged and returned to the place they were found. The spokesman said that as well as preventing unwanted kittens, sterilization had the effect of making street cats gentler and friendlier towards humans.
