Urban experts to offer public a peek at city's future

A conference which begins as one of the opening events in Tel Aviv's 100th birthday celebrations, is being billed as the 'Convention of the Century.'

More than 300 urban planning specialists and public figures from around the world are expected to take part in a special convention to discuss the future of Tel Aviv, reports www.local.co.il. The two-day conference which begins April 1 as one of the opening events in the city's 100th birthday celebrations, is being billed as the "Convention of the Century," and will focus on the development of Tel Aviv over the next 100 years. According to the report, the convention will discuss strategic planning, preservation needs, environmentally friendly construction, transport and pollution problems, all with the aim of laying down foundations for the future development of the city. Participants will examine case studies to see how city planners, architects, designers and artists have dealt with similar problems in other cities around the world. The report said 12 universities would be represented at the convention, and it would also be attended by the mayors of Tel Aviv's sister cities and of other cities with which Tel Aviv has a working relationship, including Los Angeles, Paris, Budapest, Warsaw, Lodz, Vienna, Bonn, Cologne, Frankfurt and Toulouse. The convention is being organized by the University of Tel Aviv's Azrieli Architectural School and will take place at the Tel Aviv Opera House (Mishkan Le'omanuyot Habama).
