Wheels spin on new bicycle park

Netanya has officially inaugurated its new bicycle park, the first such park in Israel, reports www.local.co.il. The park, which will eventually cover 45 dunams between the Beach Highway (Kvish 2) and the Geha Highway (Kvish 4), contains a 1.6-kilometer criterium road, the longest such road in the country. A criterium is a type of bicycle race held on closed-off city streets. According to the report, Mayor Miriam Fierberg-Ikar officially inaugurated the park last week. Infrastructure for electricity, water, drainage and sewerage has been completed, and fencing and lighting have been set up. The report said the dedicated, paved criterium road was expected to be an instant attraction for cyclists. It said the municipal development company would soon announce a tender for the next stage of the park, which would include all-terrain and extreme cycling areas.
