With the holidays on the way and fall around the corner, try to take time for yourself, enjoy the company of friends and family and have a happy New Year.
Curls and waves
No more straight hair, say hair specialists Schwarzkopf Professional. Curls and waves are back, and accordingly the leading hair-products company has launched two new lines – Mad About Curls and Mad About Waves. Besides shampoos and conditioners, the new lines include creams, masks, sprays and oils. The new products contain formulas that strengthen the hair, provide extra hydration and protect hair from splitting and breaking, while giving curls and waves, volume and great texture. As always, Schwarzkopf delivers, and our curly tester loved the result. The products are only available at hair salons. To find one near you call 1-800-33-33-22.
Sweet and luxurious
Jo Malone London has launched a new scent in Israel for the holidays – Honeysuckle and Davana. The yummy scent is as pleasurable as you can imagine – with top notes of the Indian herb davana, middle notes of honeysuckle and an herbal base. This scent for men and women alike is available in cologne 30 ml., NIS 265; 100 ml. NIS 530; scented candle NIS 240. A very nice gift for the holidays, if you can afford it. Available in TLV Fashion Mall, Ofer Ramat Aviv mall and Mamilla Mall in Jerusalem.
Fresh scent
Dove has launched a new pear-scented deodorant line with aloe vera. The new scent is very fresh and gentle, and the deodorants contain 25% hydrating cream and no alcohol. Available in spray-on and roll-on, the company says that the deodorants provide up to 48 hours of protection.
Slowing down
Calling its new line Slow Âge, Vichy recently launched two items in the line – SPF 30 day cream for dry to regular skin, and eye cream. Vichy Slow Âge day cream is a protective moisturizer developed for normal-to-dry and sensitive skin types.
Enriched with antioxidant biacalin, probiotic-derived bifidus and the signature Vichy thermal water, the day cream has a rich formula, clinically proven to decelerate visible signs of aging. NIS 169.
The eye cream’s formula targets fine lines, puffiness and dark circles. Smoothing over the delicate eye contour, the cream is fast absorbed, delivering instant radiance. The rich cream brightens the eye area to eliminate dark circles.
Puffiness is also significantly reduced. Suitable for sensitive skin. NIS 139
Very handy
After all the cooking and cleaning for Rosh Hashana, your hands probably need a little TLC. I know mine do. Try the new intensive hand cream by New York’s premium brand Kiehl’s. Its new richly hydrating scented hand cream comes in three scents – lavender, grapefruit and cilantro (my favorite, but some people cannot tolerate the smell). Containing shea butter and vitamin C, the cream is absorbed fast, is not oily yet it gives instant relief. NIS 85, available in the brand’s stores in malls around the country.
Beauty boxes
Professional cosmetic company HL has launched two new gift boxes containing its topof-the-line products. The hydration and protection box with Vitalise products, including serum, day cream and night cream, NIS 585, and the Juvelist box with products for damaged skin, including rich serum, active day cream and intensive night cream, NIS 702. Available only at HL licensed beauticians. For more details go to www.hl-labs.co.il
New face for the new year
Allergan has launched Juvéderm Volite – an innovative injectable treatment designed to improve skin quality for up to nine months. Using a new and patented technology, for use on the face, neck, neckline and hands, Allergan says that the new Juvéderm Volite improves the skin’s texture, using hyaluronic acid gel that improves smoothness, hydration and elasticity for up to nine months with just one treatment. Available at specialized clinics, each treatment costs between NIS 1,500 and NIS 1,800 – but according to the company, one should be enough for nine months.
Excellence and tradition
The Whiskey Museum in Sarona, Tel Aviv recently held a special event introducing 15-year-old triple cask Macallan. Made exclusively with whiskey aged at least 15 years in a combination of European sherry-seasoned casks, American sherry-seasoned casks and American ex-bourbon casks, this whiskey has aromas of citrus blossom, chocolate, cardamom and treacle, as well as poached pear and a hint of smoke flavors, and a long-lasting cinnamon and raisin finish, with a touch of lemon. This fantastic whiskey should make a wonderful gift for a very special day. NIS 550 (prices vary between shops).
Also introduced was the Macallan Edition No. 3, the third release in Macallan’s wood-focused edition series created by master whiskey maker Bob Dalgarno, together with master perfumer Roja Dove. Dove pinned down the flavor profile combining six American and European oak casks, with deliciously sweet, floral notes up front. Reminiscent of a fine fragrance, the nose leads with vanilla, fresh oak and delicate florals, delicate hints of orange peel, ginger, cinnamon and nutmeg as well as chocolate. On the palate sweet fruity flavors, vanilla and apple with a long palate: sweet fruit, vanilla and rich fruitcake with suggestions of apricot, pear and crisp green apple. Hints of ginger and cinnamon, balanced with a light oak finale. NIS 545.
The highlight of the evening at the Sarona Whiskey Museum, accompanied by dinner cooked to perfection by chef Orel Kimhi from Poppina Neveh Tzedek, the importers introduced a bottle of the 50-year-old Macallan sherry oak. The bottle, No. 40 out of 200 bottles sold around the world, cost the museum NIS 160,000. It will be auctioned off in January, and the current price stands at NIS 200,000. The lucky buyer will also get a VIP trip to Macallan’s new distillery in Scotland.

Getting together with friends during the holidays sometimes calls for raising a glass of excellent beer. Try new ones imported to Israel. Recently Tempo started importing new premium beers from around the world, including the French beer Desperados, which has launched a new beer category, spirit beers, introducing lager spiced with tequila and lemon with 5.9% alcohol (NIS 7), Jamaican staple beer Red Stripe with 4.7% alcohol (NIS 6), Birra Moretti from Italy, a prize-winning light lager (NIS 6) and the Belgian ale Affligem, an authentic traditional ale made according to an age-old recipe with 6.7% alcohol and wonderful fruity flavors (NIS 8).
L’haim!
Fantastic artisanal baking
Located near Kibbutz Mishmarot, between Caesarea and Pardess Hanna, Elhanan Bread Culture is a chef-run bakery specializing in artisan baking breads and cakes with natural sour dough, using age-old techniques. If you are in the area, don’t miss its French croissant, Italian panettone, pretzel and Danish cinnamon roll – all sold every Friday in the store, to enjoy in the bakery or take home. (04) 883-8200. Open weekdays from 7 a.m. To 8 p.m., Fridays from 7 a.m. To 3 p.m.
Bake it yourself
Following its successful launch last year, Bonjour has added three ready-to-bake products in its Bonjour Ve’latanur line – nougat, cinnamon rugelach and apple rolls.
If, like me, you love the smell of freshly baked yeast cakes but do not always have the time for baking from scratch, keep one in the freezer; when you warm it up, it smells as if you baked it yourself. Kosher badatz.
Not too hot
Especially for the Israeli market, the French mustard brand Reine de Dijon has launched a new flavor – mild mustard with horseradish, the perfect ingredient for your next roast. We love the flavor of mustard, but not everybody around the table likes it hot – so this mustard is a fantastic solution.
Great in marinades, salad dressings and as a sandwich spread. Kosher, available in most supermarkets.
Medical cover-up
Problematic skin calls for very special makeup solutions, especially for a foundation that not only covers but also does not irritate the skin – and preferably even helps it. The only such makeup we found recently in Israel is Oxygenetix, designed to be used after cosmetic procedures for full coverage and recovery.
The makeup, imported by Alphamedix, is sold mainly to cosmetic surgeons, but it is also good for those suffering from skin conditions such as rosacea and acne.
Accompanied by a special face cream, Oxygenetix solves the problem for those who need to leave the house after cosmetic surgeries or peelings and are not allowed to use regular makeup.
The light non-allergenic formula allows skin to recover, supporting the natural healing process. Thanks to its durability, the makeup was chosen as a base for many stars participating in the last Oscar ceremony. NIS 450, available only at cosmetic clinics.

Healthy dog treats
Dogs also deserve treats for the holidays, and Pomeri Bakery offers them just that. Joining forces with veterinarians from around the world, it has developed vitamin-rich, healthful snacks that dogs adore. Treat your dog with snacks based on turmeric with coconut oil, seaweed and rosemary, or choose a vegan one with apple, coconut oil, carrot and cranberries. Other snacks are also gluten free, with chia and more. There are many kinds and the dogs we gave them to loved them. NIS 20 to NIS 28 for 100-gram bags. The snacks are available online at www.pomeri.co.il or call 073-374-4437.
