Kubert in the frame

Holon Cinematheque will host a tribute to comics creators Joe and Adam Kubert on August 19 that will mostly present the highlights of Joe Kubert's 70-year career.

At 85 years old, the truly legendary comics creator Joe Kubert is still going strong. Together with his son Adam, also a comics creator, Kubert will be the guest of the Israel Museum for Comics and Cartoons in Holon from August 17 to 19.
Both are coming for the opening of “Heroes,” a retrospective of his work and that of his sons, Adam and Andy, who have carried on the tradition and are well-known in their own right.
The Holon Cinematheque will host a tribute to Joe and Adam Kubert on August 17 that will mostly present the highlights of Joe Kubert’s 70-year career, which started in 1942 with a six-page story on a character called Volton. His most famous creations are Sergeant Rock and superhero Hawkman, both of which ran for decades. In 2009 he created a new Sergeant Rock story for Wednesday Comics for which his son Adam wrote the story.
On August 18 Kubert will receive a Life Achievement certificate from IMCC at the opening of “Heroes,” and on August 19, he and his son will sign books in the museum bookstore. On the same day at 10:30 a.m., he’ll attend a question-and-answer session at the Animix 11 Festival of Animation, Cartoons and Comics at the Tel Aviv Cinematheque.
Joe Kubert was born in Yzeran, a shtetl in southeast Poland, arriving in Brooklyn with his family at two and a half months.
Kubert was inducted into the Harvey Awards’ Jack Kirby Hall of Fame in 1997, and Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame in 1998.
