Avi Lebovich and his 12-piece band The Orchestra will be doing their high-energy musical bit at the Pasaz venue in Tel Aviv on Wednesday. Trombonist-band leader Lebovich established the ensemble just over a decade ago, shortly after he returned from New York, where he studied and worked for 10 years, as well as a two-year tenure in London with British jazz-funk band Incognito. The Orchestra has appeared all over the world and put out two albums in the process – Groove Collage, which came out in 2009, and Volcano, released last year.
The Orchestra is something of a unique outfit on the Israeli jazz scene and spreads its musical wares across a wide range of disciplines and genres, from straight-ahead jazz to Latin jazz, electronic music, classical elements, funk and rock sensibilities.
Lebovich is responsible for much of the troupe’s output, either by providing compositions or arranging other people’s creations, with other contributions coming from saxophonist Amit Friedman and trombonist Yaron Ouzana.
The band has also collaborated with a wide range of artists from the local pop and rock scenes, including pianist-vocalist Shlomi Shaban, hip-hop band Hadag Nahash, veteran pop-ethnic music composer, pianist and flutist Shem Tov Levy and internationally acclaimed rocker Asaf Avidan.
The Pasaz show will also feature guest singer Elran Deckel from the Funk’n’Stein funk band.
