Abbas reportedly resisting pressures to expel Hamas from West Bank

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas was reportedly resisting pressure from within Fatah to uproot Hamas in the West Bank and to prepare for a military confrontation in Gaza, Israel Radio reported on Wednesday morning. Palestinian sources told the London-based Asharq Alawsat newspaper that Abbas wanted to give another chance to the negotiations with Hamas. Fatah officials denied reports according to which it had been decided to initiate a confrontation with Hamas if the talks being held between the Palestinian factions in Cairo would not succeed.
