Egyptian intelligence chief Omar Suleiman has warned Hamas political bureau head Khaled Mashaal that if Hamas does not free kidnapped soldier Gilad Shalit by the middle of next week, Israel will invade the Gaza Strip.
The London-based Arab daily a-Sharq al-Awsat reported Monday that in his meeting with Suleiman in Damascus this weekend, Mashaal reiterated his position that Shalit would not be freed before Israel agreed to release Palestinian prisoners.
