Hamas Parliamentarian Ahmad Abu Hamdiya called Wednesday for the Palestinian Authority to implement Islamic punitive law (shari'a.)
Abu Hamdiya referred specifically to violations such as murder, theft, prostitution and the sale of alcohol.
He declared that even if the decrees of the legal system contradicted those of the international community, it would be irrelevant since "Islam is the law!"
