Two senior Shi'ite lawmakers close to the prime minister say an agreement has been reached with mostly Sunni legislators in exchange for their support of a proposed US-Iraqi security pact.
Khalid al-Attiyah and Sami al-Askari say the agreement with the Sunnis as well as the security pact will be put to a vote later Thursday in the 275-seat parliament.
The security pact would allow American troops to stay in Iraq for three more years.
The two Shi'ite lawmakers did not fully outline the agreement but said it does not include two Sunni demands: the repeal of a law designed to weed out former members of Saddam Hussein's Baath party, or the dissolution of a special court that tried the dictator and top officials of his regime.
