A spokesman of Kurdish rebels based in Iraq said on Sunday that the movement would observe a nine-day cease-fire in their fight against Turkey as a goodwill gesture during an Islamic holiday.
Ahmed Deniz of the Kurdistan Workers' Party told The Associated Press that the group's military and political leadership would like to resolve its conflict with Turkey peacefully.
He called the cease-fire the "first step toward peace."
