A security official says an Egyptian soldier has been killed during clashes with smugglers south of the Rafah border crossing between Egypt and the Gaza strip.
The official says Mohammed Ramadan was shot Monday while standing guard some 12 miles (20 kilometers) south of the Rafah border crossing. Two other border guards started shooting at the smugglers who fled inside Egypt.
