Palestinian Authority PM seeks steps against settlements

The Palestinian Authority prime minister said on Thursday that he wanted Palestinian diplomats to campaign for economic steps against Israeli settlements in the West Bank. PA Prime Minister Salaam Fayad said that Israel has ignored international condemnation of continued settlement expansion in territories the Palestinians claim for a future state. He noted that Britain was taking first steps toward economic pressure. British Foreign Minister David Miliband urged European countries to impose tighter controls on imports from settlements to the EU. Fayad also said that he believed there were no differences among leading Israeli politicians on settlements. He said that the issue had not come up in Israel's election campaign. Fayad made his remarks while speaking to Palestinian diplomats in Ramallah.
