Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas's private physician said Monday that the Palestinian leader is in good health, dismissing concern about his heart condition sparked by last week's angiogram.
Dr. Abdullah al-Bashir said he performed the heart procedure on Abbas last Thursday to check for blocked blood vessels, a cause of heart attacks, but no problems were found. Abbas was promptly discharged afterward.
The doctor said Monday the procedure was incorrectly reported as angioplasty at the time it was performed.
An angiogram is an imaging test that uses x-rays to view blood vessels after a dye is injected into the body through a catheter.
During angioplasty, doctors push a tiny balloon into an obstructed blood vessel, inflate it to flatten the clog, and often insert a stent to prop open the vessel.
