Regional water conference in Jordan canceled due to 'tensions' in ME

A conference of European and Mediterranean nations to discuss water issues has been canceled due to tension in the Middle East, AFP reported Saturday evening. The conference, which was due to be held on the banks of the Dead Sea in Jordan, "was postponed at the request of Jordan for reasons to do with the tensions between the Arab League and Israel," the environment ministry in France, which co-chairs with Egypt the Union for the Mediterranean (UPM) was quoted as saying. The forum aimed to put together a long-term strategy for water in the Mediterranean region.
