"Syrian-French relations continue even at this very moment," Syrian Information Minister Mohsen Bilal said Monday morning, a day after French President Nicolas Sarkozy announced that he was cutting all ties with the Presidential Palace in Damascus "until further notice." Bilal, speaking to the pan-Arab Asharq Alwasat daily, said Syrian ties with France "included no demand that we press our friends in Lebanon." Bilal also gave an interview on a Syrian TV station, Sunday, and said that "Syria and Lebanon are working together so that our brothers in Lebanon will solve the crisis regarding electing a president who will be accepted by all Lebanese." Bilal said the Syrian interest was to ensure stability and security in Lebanon. An international investigation into Hariri's slaying has not yet reached definite conclusions but already points to Syria as a major suspect.
